A Special Surprise to Commemorate Mickey’s Birthday at Disneyland Resort

11/18/2020

To commemorate Mickey Mouse’s birthday, Disney is excited to reveal a special surprise at the Disneyland Resort. Following a refurbishment, the iconic Partners statue in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland park has been restored to its original grandeur!
Picture
Picture
The beloved Partners statue, created by famed Disney sculptor Blaine Gibson, features Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse. The photo above left was taken at its original unveiling on Nov. 18, 1993, at the hub in Disneyland park to commemorate Mickey’s 65th birthday.

Over time, the bronze had oxidized, and because of the applied patina, acrylic polymer and wax, it required a more intensive process than just a simple cleaning or polishing. Over four days, an artisan utilized a process using crushed walnut shells to gently strip the figure down to the bare bronze. After cleaning, various chemicals were applied and heated with a blowtorch to create a reaction and fuse with the bronze. The figure was coated in a polymer to protect the patina, then coated with a very thin layer of wax.

Guests visiting the Downtown Disney District’s extension into Buena Vista Street will have an opportunity to see the Storytellers statue, which has also been restored. This statue features a 1920s-era Walt in a fedora and traveling attire — just off the train from Missouri and ready to realize his dreams with his pal, Mickey.

Happy creation day to the duo who started it all 92 years ago today — Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse!

Picture
As Disney previously announced, Downtown Disney District will begin reopening on July 9 in line with state's reopening guidelines. Disney is pleased to welcome back a variety of shopping and dining experiences during this initial phase, including the flagship World of Disney store.
Disney is following guidelines from health authorities and government agencies, as well as applying learnings from the phase reopening at Disney Springs in Florida to guide their reopening plans. With the health of guest and Disney cast members at the forefront of planning, several operational changes will be implemented based on guidance from health authorities to promote physical distancing and cleanliness throughout the Downtown Disney District.

During the initial reopening phase, Downtown Disney District will have capacity measures in place, as well as limitations on parking and operating hours. Guests will be directed to self-park at Simba lot (at Disneyland Drive and Katella Ave). Please follow signs for clearly defined entrances and exits. In addition, Downtown Disney District hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., daily. Individual location hours may vary.

Additional measures and information will be shared closer to the reopening date.

Pending state and local government approvals, Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park plan to reopen on July 17.  In addition, Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel will begin to reopen on July 23.

Picture
It's almost time for magic as Disney's prepares for the reopening of Walt DIsney WOrld Resort theme parks, starting July 11 with Magic Kingdom Park and DIsney's Animal Kingdom and on July 15 Epco and Disney's Hollywood Studios. Disney is taking a deliberate approach that includes limits on attendance and controlled guest density to align with guidance form health and government authorities on physical distancing. Disney is also using technology to power creative solutions as they develop new ways for guest to visit the MOST MAGICAL PLACE on Earth in this unique environment and we are here to give you all the latest details.
Picture
To manage attendance during this reopening period Disney is introducing the new Disney Park Pass system. During this time, all guests with a ticket or Annual Pass will be required to make a reservation in advance for each park entry, using this new online tool on DisneyWorld.com.

Here are a few important details to know about this new system:
  • You will need a My Disney Experience account, as this is where your Walt Disney World Resort plans are stored and managed.
  • You will also need a valid theme park ticket or Annual Pass that's linked to your My Disney Experience account.
  • If you have a Disney Resort Hotel reservation, be sure to link it to this My Disney Experience account beforehand, as well.
Once you have logged into your My Disney Experience account and linked your ticket, you will have access to a calendar of available reservation dates for each theme park. If you have a multi-day ticket, you will be required to make a park reservation for EACH date of your visit. Families and friends can link their tickets together and look to arrange theme park entries at the same time.
PLEASE NOTE, park reservations are LIMITED in number and are subject to availability. Availability can change until the reservation is finalized. At this time, guests will be able to select one park per day; visiting more than one park per day will be temporarily unavailable upon the reopening of the theme parks due to attendance limitations. Guest with existing tickets that include the Park Hopper Option or Park Hopper Plus Option have options available to them for ticket modifications and cancellations. Disney hopes to bring back the ability to visit more than one park per day soon and will continue to offer these add-ons for 2021 ticket purchases.
Picture
For Existing Ticket Holders and Annual Passholders:Beginning this week, Disney will reach out to existing ticket holders and Annual Passholders with more information on when they will be able to check availability to make their park reservations. Disney will open the Disney Park Pass system to these guests in Phases, beginning with those with future DIsney Resort and other select hotel stays. Later this summer, Disney will resume sales of 2020 tickets and Disney Resort hotel arrivals, based on availability of park reservations, while Disney continue to provide guests with existing tickets and Annual Passholders the opportunity to make park reservations for 2020 dates.

Get ‘Resistance Ready’ for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Launching Jan. 17 at Disneyland Park

1/10/2020

Picture
When Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens at the Disneyland Resort one week from today, you will be able to ride one of the most ambitious, advanced and immersive experiences ever undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering. Already open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, this epic adventure blurs the lines between fantasy and reality on a scale never seen before in a Disney attraction. So who is ready to ride this new amazing ride?
Picture
Disney has offered seven ways to make the most out of your visit to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and planning tips for the highly anticipated opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance on Jan. 17 at Disneyland park and here they are:
1. Download the official Disneyland mobile app
First things first. The Disneyland app* allows you to navigate that land and even utilize the mobile ordering feature at select dining locations when you are in the land. Be sure to download before you go!
2. Plan around your attraction experience
Starting Jan. 17 as needed, a virtual queue for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance may be implemented to help deliver the best possible guest experience, allowing guests to explore other areas of the park while waiting for their turn to ride. The Disneyland app will have a dedicated module, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance – Access by Boarding Group, available from the main page. Here’s how it will work:
  • Request to join a boarding group to ride the attraction, once you have entered Disneyland park. The virtual queue will not be available until published park opening hours.
  • Boarding groups will be sent a push notification when it is their turn to enter the attraction queue and you can monitor status of boarding groups from the app.
  • There also will be the ability to join a boarding group from select locations inside Disneyland park, if you are not using the app. The boarding group is tied to admission that will be scanned upon entry of the attraction.
  • Signage throughout the park will also display boarding group status.
  • Admission into Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be subject to capacity, and having an assigned boarding group will not guarantee entrance to the attraction.
3. Make a reservation for select experiences
Whether you’re looking to craft your own lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, build your very own custom astromech droid unit at Droid Depot, or sip on a delicious concoction at Oga’s Cantina, these three locations offer advance reservations up to 60 days in advance. These popular experiences book up quickly, so be sure to check out the Disneyland Resort website or the Disneyland app to make your reservations today!
4. Display your affiliation with the rebellious Resistance or the intimidating First Order
You’re encouraged to live out your Star Wars story and dress the part while visiting Batuu, however, keep in mind the Disneyland Resort costume policy is in effect. While costumes may not be worn by guests 14 years of age or older, appropriate bounding—dressing in outfits inspired by Star Wars—is permitted.
5. Find a buddy to ride with you
Head to Batuu’s marketplace to check out the Creature Stall. You may find an exotic creature or critter from around the galaxy to accompany you aboard Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, including a sassy Kowakian monkey-lizard or an adorable porg!
6. Explore Black Spire Outpost with your Star Wars: Datapad through the Play Disney Parks App
If you’ve traveled to Batuu, you may be familiar with the Star Wars: Datapad, a land-wide interactive experience available through the Play Disney Parks mobile app.* There are so many ways to explore with your Datapad, including choosing to support the Resistance or First Order by selecting new jobs within the app as you move through the Resistance clearing and towards the new attraction.
7. Follow the experience with a refreshing treat
After escaping the clutches of the dark side, treat yourself to a local delicacy in Batuu – Blue Milk and Green Milk! Available at the Milk Stand, these frosty confections are an invigorating, refreshing drink. Pair your milk with a sweet, savory snack made with popcorn from Kat Saka’s Kettle. Try the new chocolate popcorn with Crait Red Salt – yum!
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance opens Jan. 17 at the Disneyland Resort. Rising Moons!
*Message, data and roaming rates may apply. Availability subject to handset limitations, and features may vary by handset, service provider or otherwise. Coverage and app stores not available everywhere. If you’re under 18, get your parents’ permission first. Some features require separate theme park admission

2019 Disneyland Candy Canes Dates: How to Get Your Own Candy Cane

11/12/2019

Picture
It just isn’t the holiday season at Disneyland Resort without the famous hand-pulled candy canes that start to appear in windows of the Candy Palace and Trolley Treats every November. The talented Disneyland Resort Candy Makers always look forward getting out their gloves out and making these delicious peppermint sweets. From start to finish, they work to create these colorful candy canes from scratch – from mixing the ingredients and hand-pulling the candy to rolling, twisting and wrapping up the final products.

This tradition dates back to 1968, making this year the 49th anniversary of these incredible candy canes. Each year, guests flock to the Disneyland Resort to get in on the hand-crafted sweetness. These candy canes measure a whopping 18 inches long. If you’re looking to try them yourself, then look no further, because you’ll be able to purchase these delightful treats starting November 24.

With only a limited number made daily and only for a short amount of time it is no wonder these delectable treats are so sought after.  If your curiously is peeked and you would like to buy a fresh made warm delicious candy cane, you need to plan ahead.  There will be some waiting and dedication that goes into getting your hands on one of these candy canes but we are sure with the tips listed below you are sure to be one of the few that will enjoy this treat.

  1. Get to the park at least an hour prior to opening so you can have a chance at being at the front of the line for the turnstiles entering the parks.
  2. As soon as you can head directly to Candy Palace at Disneyland park or Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure Park (Depending on which park is serving the treats, check below for the dates and locations). You will see a line forming very quickly for these treats. Please DO NOT RUN as some have tried to do, it is a safety risk.
  3. Once inline the Cast Members will start disturbing a wristband to each person in line (only one per person, so if each person in your family wants one, each person must wait with you), along with the wristbands you will get a return time. If you're lucky enough to be near the front, you might be able to pick up your candy cane right away and skip needing a wrist band. Remember only one candy cane per person and Disney does not allow you to save spots
  4. Come back on time for your candy Cane! You will end up likely waiting in two lines for these candy canes when all is said and done.

Behind the Scenes: Decking the Disneyland Resort for the Holidays

It’s that time of year when many of us start thinking about decorating for the holidays. At the Disneyland Resort, our resort enhancement team actually started planning for this year’s holiday design last year! Creating, maintaining and storing all of the decorations for the resort is a year-long process.

The video below shows our resident “elves” hard at work in our warehouse where most of the resort’s yuletide trimmings are stored. From gathering garland to unboxing bows, they ensure every detail of décor is ready to make the season bright at the Disneyland Resort.
A few fun facts about decorating for the holidays at the Disneyland Resort:
  • The exterior of Main Street, U.S.A., features approximately 220 garlands that measure more than four miles long, with approximately 80 wreaths and 120 bows bringing the season to life on this charming street.
  • It takes nearly three dozen cast members 35 days to install the glittering façade of “it’s a small world” Holiday and nearly 18 days to decorate the holiday attraction’s dazzling interior.
  • The Disneyland Christmas tree stands 60-feet tall on Main Street, U.S.A. and features 1,500 Victorian-inspired ornaments with 100 oversized faux candles.
  • Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle shimmers during the day and is illuminated each night with more than 126,000 twinkling LED lights, sparkling “icicles” and shimmering snow-capped turrets.
  • A 50-foot Christmas tree adorns Carthay Circle to help guests get in the holiday spirit. The tree and surrounding buildings are decorated with vintage-style ornaments in keeping with the theme of Buena Vista Street, inspired by Los Angeles as it appeared when Walt Disney arrived in the 1920s.

We’re just a few days away from the start of Holidays at the Disneyland® Resort, and the return of the joyous Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure® Park. Inspired by the vibrant cultural diversity of Southern California, this heartwarming celebration brings the holiday season to life with music and dance performances, the colorful Festival Foods Marketplace, diverse crafts and plenty of beloved Disney characters who invite your Clients to delight in the festive spirit of the holidays.
This year for Disney Festival of Holidays, there’s an all-new character celebration, “Mickey’s Happy Holidays.” Twice daily, a cheerful celebration featuring favorite Disney and Pixar characters enters the park to a mix of high-energy music, as you are invited to dance along with Mickey Mouse and pals to the magically merry rhythms of the Holiday Toy Drummers. Guest can find them at the Paradise Gardens Park Obelisk and Carthay Circle, where everyone can sing and dance along!
Also new this year, the Holiday Sunset Concerts on the Palisades Stage feature The Suffragettes. This exciting festival cover band rocks the holidays on select nights, with chart-topping hits from some of your favorite musical artists. On other nights, the explosive energy of Phat Cat Swinger, the West Coast’s “Little-Big Band,” will showcase their swinging selection of irresistible holiday music, presented with a fresh new twist.
These great bands join other returning entertainment that honors the many cultural holidays celebrated at Disney Festival of Holidays. Blue13 Dance Company presents a spirited tribute to Diwali through traditional Indian folk dances and Bollywood. Mostly Kosher brings the spirit of Hanukkah in a concert that combines Klezmer, Jazz and Rock & Roll. A cappella performances by The Sound celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa, and the Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas bring the joy of Navidad to the party! Disney Festival of Holidays includes all that, plus the antics of the Holiday Toy Drummers, the incredibly fun Disney ¡Viva Navidad! with The Three Caballeros and Santa’s Holiday Visit at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.
Disney Festival of Holidays starts Nov. 8, 2019 and continues through Jan. 6, 2020.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland® Resort is about to get a whole lot tastier this week! Dinsey has got an intergalactic shipment of several new menu items flying into the Black Spire Outpost this week, and you won’t want to miss them. But first, Disney have some exciting news regarding their bookable Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge experiences.
Starting on Oct. 21, to give you more flexibility, Oga’s Cantina (as well as Savi’s Workshop and Droid Depot) will begin offering advance reservations up to 60 days in advance, following the 60-day reservation process currently offered for restaurants and experiences requiring reservations throughout the Disneyland Resort. Each of these experiences makes for an unforgettable visit to the planet of Batuu. Whether you are making their own lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop, building their very own custom astromech droid unit at Droid Depot, or sipping on a delicious concoction with DJ R-3X at Oga’s Cantina, you’re sure to have blast. These popular experiences book up quickly, so be sure to check out the Disneyland Resort website or the Disneyland app to make your reservations today!
Now, on to the FOOD! There are five new items located throughout the land that you will want to try, all available starting on Oct. 16, 2019. Here are all the juicy details:
At Oga’s Cantina, a new charcuterie plate will join the menu: the Happabore Sampler featuring a selection of cured meats, artisan cheeses, pickled and preserved rations, and crackers. It’s the perfect shareable bite to munch on while you sip on the many delicious concoctions Oga has to offer.
If you are picking up a shipment at Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo, you’ll definitely want to try the new Garden Patty Bun! This new kid’s meal features a bao bun, roasted carrots, house sauce, and an orange.
Speaking of plant-based, there’s a new Ronto-less Garden Wrap coming to Ronto Roasters featuring plant-based sausage, spicy kimchi slaw, sweet pickled cucumber, and Gochujang spread all wrapped in pita. Also being added to the Ronto Roaster menu is Kyryll Pork Rinds with cinnamon-sugar served in a MSE-6 Series Repair Droid souvenir vessel.
Finally, right next door at Kat Saka’s Kettle, you will soon be able to snack on chocolate popcorn with Crait Red Salt (this salt comes from Crait, the now-uninhabited red mineral world dusted by a layer of white salt which reflects the planet’s sunlight. Once a Rebel Alliance outpost, the planet has now become a safe haven for the fleeing Resistance forces).
All five of these new items are exclusive to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Resort and will be available beginning Oct. 16. And don’t forget, you  can skip the line and order in advance with mobile ordering on the Disneyland app.* Mobile ordering is available for Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo, Ronto Roasters, and the Milk Stand.
*Mobile ordering is subject to restrictions and change without notice.  Message, data and roaming rates may apply to the use of the Disneyland app. Availability subject to handset limitations and features may vary by handset or service provider. Coverage and app stores not available everywhere. If you’re under 18, get your parents’ permission first.
