2019 Disneyland Candy Canes Dates: How to Get Your Own Candy Cane

It just isn’t the holiday season at Disneyland Resort without the famous hand-pulled candy canes that start to appear in windows of the Candy Palace and Trolley Treats every November. The talented Disneyland Resort Candy Makers always look forward getting out their gloves out and making these delicious peppermint sweets. From start to finish, they work to create these colorful candy canes from scratch – from mixing the ingredients and hand-pulling the candy to rolling, twisting and wrapping up the final products.

This tradition dates back to 1968, making this year the 49th anniversary of these incredible candy canes. Each year, guests flock to the Disneyland Resort to get in on the hand-crafted sweetness. These candy canes measure a whopping 18 inches long. If you’re looking to try them yourself, then look no further, because you’ll be able to purchase these delightful treats starting November 24.

With only a limited number made daily and only for a short amount of time it is no wonder these delectable treats are so sought after.  If your curiously is peeked and you would like to buy a fresh made warm delicious candy cane, you need to plan ahead.  There will be some waiting and dedication that goes into getting your hands on one of these candy canes but we are sure with the tips listed below you are sure to be one of the few that will enjoy this treat.

  1. Get to the park at least an hour prior to opening so you can have a chance at being at the front of the line for the turnstiles entering the parks.
  2. As soon as you can head directly to Candy Palace at Disneyland park or Trolley Treats at Disney California Adventure Park (Depending on which park is serving the treats, check below for the dates and locations). You will see a line forming very quickly for these treats. Please DO NOT RUN as some have tried to do, it is a safety risk.
  3. Once inline the Cast Members will start disturbing a wristband to each person in line (only one per person, so if each person in your family wants one, each person must wait with you), along with the wristbands you will get a return time. If you're lucky enough to be near the front, you might be able to pick up your candy cane right away and skip needing a wrist band. Remember only one candy cane per person and Disney does not allow you to save spots
  4. Come back on time for your candy Cane! You will end up likely waiting in two lines for these candy canes when all is said and done.

Both the Candy Palace and Trolley Treats have specific alternating days that they make the candy canes. The candy canes sell for $12.99 each and are 5 oz each. Annual Pass discounts are not applicable for purchasing a Candy Cane.

Behind the Scenes: Decking the Disneyland Resort for the Holidays

It’s that time of year when many of us start thinking about decorating for the holidays. At the Disneyland Resort, our resort enhancement team actually started planning for this year’s holiday design last year! Creating, maintaining and storing all of the decorations for the resort is a year-long process.

The video below shows our resident “elves” hard at work in our warehouse where most of the resort’s yuletide trimmings are stored. From gathering garland to unboxing bows, they ensure every detail of décor is ready to make the season bright at the Disneyland Resort.
A few fun facts about decorating for the holidays at the Disneyland Resort:
  • The exterior of Main Street, U.S.A., features approximately 220 garlands that measure more than four miles long, with approximately 80 wreaths and 120 bows bringing the season to life on this charming street.
  • It takes nearly three dozen cast members 35 days to install the glittering façade of “it’s a small world” Holiday and nearly 18 days to decorate the holiday attraction’s dazzling interior.
  • The Disneyland Christmas tree stands 60-feet tall on Main Street, U.S.A. and features 1,500 Victorian-inspired ornaments with 100 oversized faux candles.
  • Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle shimmers during the day and is illuminated each night with more than 126,000 twinkling LED lights, sparkling “icicles” and shimmering snow-capped turrets.
  • A 50-foot Christmas tree adorns Carthay Circle to help guests get in the holiday spirit. The tree and surrounding buildings are decorated with vintage-style ornaments in keeping with the theme of Buena Vista Street, inspired by Los Angeles as it appeared when Walt Disney arrived in the 1920s.

We’re just a few days away from the start of Holidays at the Disneyland® Resort, and the return of the joyous Disney Festival of Holidays at Disney California Adventure® Park. Inspired by the vibrant cultural diversity of Southern California, this heartwarming celebration brings the holiday season to life with music and dance performances, the colorful Festival Foods Marketplace, diverse crafts and plenty of beloved Disney characters who invite your Clients to delight in the festive spirit of the holidays.
This year for Disney Festival of Holidays, there’s an all-new character celebration, “Mickey’s Happy Holidays.” Twice daily, a cheerful celebration featuring favorite Disney and Pixar characters enters the park to a mix of high-energy music, as you are invited to dance along with Mickey Mouse and pals to the magically merry rhythms of the Holiday Toy Drummers. Guest can find them at the Paradise Gardens Park Obelisk and Carthay Circle, where everyone can sing and dance along!
Also new this year, the Holiday Sunset Concerts on the Palisades Stage feature The Suffragettes. This exciting festival cover band rocks the holidays on select nights, with chart-topping hits from some of your favorite musical artists. On other nights, the explosive energy of Phat Cat Swinger, the West Coast’s “Little-Big Band,” will showcase their swinging selection of irresistible holiday music, presented with a fresh new twist.
These great bands join other returning entertainment that honors the many cultural holidays celebrated at Disney Festival of Holidays. Blue13 Dance Company presents a spirited tribute to Diwali through traditional Indian folk dances and Bollywood. Mostly Kosher brings the spirit of Hanukkah in a concert that combines Klezmer, Jazz and Rock & Roll. A cappella performances by The Sound celebrate Christmas and Kwanzaa, and the Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas bring the joy of Navidad to the party! Disney Festival of Holidays includes all that, plus the antics of the Holiday Toy Drummers, the incredibly fun Disney ¡Viva Navidad! with The Three Caballeros and Santa’s Holiday Visit at Redwood Creek Challenge Trail.
Disney Festival of Holidays starts Nov. 8, 2019 and continues through Jan. 6, 2020.
